Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Bring us your decorated pumpkins/jack-o-lanterns and we will display them in the main room all month long! Contest runs from October 2-25th. One prize will be awarded for each category: adult, teen, and child.

Fall Story Time Returns!

Story Time for ages 3-5 is held every Tuesday from 10:00-10:40 a.m. The fall session begins September 19 and ends December 5th.

To the citizens of Baxter Springs and the surrounding area:

Over the years, JPL has offered many services to this community and the surrounding area as well. Books, magazines, DVDs, and audio books are all available for checkout. Computers and wi-fi are available for public use. The annual summer program held in June and July is much anticipated by area children and their families. In addition, JPL has sponsored programs featuring regional and national performers and events such as the Spooky Library, Spring Fling, Harvest Fest, and Music in the Park. All of these activities are free of charge to everyone in the area with the library absorbing all costs.
Between November 28 and December 26, the basement of the library flooded at three different times. This basement had not been flooded in over 27 years. Fortunately, the extensive clean up and disinfecting were covered by insurance. Minor repairs in the basement have been made; a sump pump and larger drain were installed. Unfortunately, the elevator control panel and hydraulic pump operations were completely destroyed. The replacement cost of $65,000 is not covered by insurance.
Now it is time for you to offer your services to the library! Many of our patrons depend upon the elevator for access to the building. Without the elevator, JPL is not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. We are asking you do donate whatever you can toward the replacement cost. If each person in the area served by this library donates just $10, we can meet our goal in a very short time! We want to bring back the elevator as quickly as possible.
